Session 7: trinity / the father

Session Recap:

How has your understanding of 1 John reshaped how you have been walking with Jesus.

  • What are some specific examples where you have approached or viewed a situation differently?

Ask:

If you were asked, “Who is God?” How would you respond?

Teaching Time:

The Bible is the revelation of God. From Genesis to Revelation, He is revealing Himself to us. It is important for us to know who He is because this is a crucial part of learning to trust him despite our ever changing circumstances and emotions. It’s his unchanging character that helps us trust Him even in the toughest of times. This week, take time to walk through each of the following attributes of God.

Then, talk about how that specific attribute helps you trust God more. This is not an exhaustive list of attributes. They are endless.

Where do we get it wrong?

  • Most people’s view of God has been shaped by something other than the Bible (Worldly) and this is detrimental. Most people’s view of God is shaped by their family, life experiences, their opinions, or something they’ve been taught by another. This has put strongholds in their life that they are unaware are wrong. It’s important to uncover this and help them base their view of God off of the Truth of God’s Word.

Challenge:

  • Humility Check - Spend time in prayer this week asking God to remove any self righteousness that may be in us.  Ask God for the strength to be able to challenge any of our current beliefs and compare them to His word.  Throughout this discipleship process, ask God to show us where we were wrong so we can align our vision to His.
